Precaution Instructions

PMU lip pigmentation

  • If you are on corticosteroid cream or ointment, you will have to wait 6 months after finishing the course.

  • suffer from cold sores? Cold sores must be treated and gone before treatment is performed. You cannot and cannot be treated with a cold sore. Do you often suffer from cold sores? please start 2 weeks in advance with L-Lysine tablets (brand Lucovitaal). The treatment gives a high chance of developing a cold sore and can adversely affect the healing and therefore the result.

  • Do not have fillers placed in the area to be treated 4 weeks in advance.

  • Vitamin E & fish oil act as a blood thinner. Discontinue use 24 hours before treatment.

  • Alcohol, tea, coffee, energy drinks act as blood thinners. Discontinue use 24 hours before treatment.

  • Aspirin, ibuprofen, naproxen, coudamine (the NSAIDs) thin the blood. Stop using 24 hours before treatment (paracetamol can be taken).

  • Stop using blood thinners 24 hours in advance if possible.

  • Chemotherapy has an influence on the skin and how the pigment will pack. There must be a period of time between this before treatment can be started.

  • It is useful to have ready-made baby ointment at home for after the treatment. many drugstores now also sell a tattoo variant, this one is also good.

Aftercare instructions

PMU

During the application of permanent make-up, the skin is broken, causing a wound. If you take good care of the PMU, it takes about six weeks for the treated skin to heal. You can shower with permanent make-up. Treat the PMU as follows:

  • On the day of treatment and up to 24 hours after treatment, still use all of the above (precautionary instructions) to avoid the risk of rejection.

  • Wash the PMU twice a day with a mild unscented soap, such as neutral.

  • After washing, pat the PMU dry with a clean towel.

  • from the next day after the treatment, the treated area will have to be greased with baby bepanthen ointment. This will be necessary until the scabs are all off.

  • Touch the treated skin as little as possible (wash your hands before taking care of the skin)

  • VERY IMPORTANT: The scabs that form must remain. Early removal of scabs can cause loss of pigment or irritation. There is also (invisible) scar tissue, which makes it more difficult to pigment the skin in these places. This makes for a less attractive result.

  • Do not cover the PMU with tight, soiled clothing. Also, don't cover the PMU with plasters or bandages.

  • It is also important to be careful with direct sunlight. Think of a cap or hat or avoid the sun. The wound is open and if sunlight comes into contact with it, it can cause a pigment discoloration. You have to be careful with sun and solarium for 3 weeks.

  • Sports are not allowed for the first 10 days. Sauna & swimming pool are also not recommended.

  • A permanent advice is to be careful with sunlight, as this will always affect the pigmented skin. In this case, apply a factor of 50 to the eyebrows. The tanning bed is also not recommended as discoloration can occur.

Note: contact your doctor in case of extreme redness, swelling, bleeding, exudate, color change or chronic pain.

Healing process

  • the first days after the treatment the result will become somewhat darker and wider. This is because scabs are formed.

  • It is important that you leave the scabs on. do not scratch, pick or remove. This can ensure that because the wound has not yet fully healed, the pigment may have caught less in places where the scabs have been removed prematurely. The peeling will be finished for the lips in 5 days.

  • In week two it will seem like the pigment has not taken hold properly. This is because the pigment is still deep in the skin layer. The color will come back.

  • The end result is visible three weeks after the treatment. If you are already satisfied with the first result and do not find a follow-up treatment necessary, I would like to ask you to cancel the appointment early. The follow-up treatment is still necessary in most cases and will take place from 6-8 weeks after the treatment.

Post-treatment process

  • After touching up your lips, this will darken again due to the formation of scabs. Here too, the result is only visible after 3 weeks.

  • the need for follow-up treatment cannot be estimated in advance and only becomes clear 3 weeks after treatment. Usually the result is as desired after the post-treatment. It sometimes happens that someone is less affected or has healed less well, so that additional follow-up treatment may be necessary. This is beyond the practitioners control, as it has to do with several factors. The aftercare instructions that are followed, the skin type, sunlight, medication, body that can repel more than the other etc.

  • do you notice after 3 weeks from the last treatment that you are not yet completely satisfied with how it has healed and do you think a 2nd follow-up treatment is necessary? This can be booked between 6 to 8 weeks after the last follow-up treatment and the costs for this are €50,-.
